Unfinished furniture is a prized commodity. The best kinds of cheap unfinished furniture are made of high-class wood and generally speaking “hot off the shelf”, so to speak. This is not to say that furniture that has been on the shelf for a while is not as good as new furniture. To be sure, newer furniture has an added appeal in the sense that it is new, and for many buyers what is new always has a premium over what is old and has not been selling as fast. That being said, furniture pieces can be expected to always have a price in the hundreds of dollars at a minimum. High quality pieces can run into the thousands of dollars, even if they are unfinished.

So how do you find high class cheap unfinished furniture? The trick is to make sure you know what you should be looking for. In general, furniture that has yet to be finished carries a lower price than finished furniture. The reason for this is obvious: why would a customer buy rough wood when they could have finished wood, especially if they are not interested in finishing their own furniture? Pay attention, however, to the way I used the words just now. I did not say the customer was interested in buying finished furniture. I asked why would the customer buy furniture that is unfinished when he could buy finished furniture? That is the key to the whole problem.

A good customer asks himself what he is looking for when he goes out shopping. He does not pay attention to what the store says about it’s products (other than the pricing, of course). A customer who wanders into a store with a vague inclination to buy something will soon find himself home with a microwave or a television he did not need. It is important to make sure you are clear with yourself about what you want to buy. With furniture, doubly so.

Now obviously a customer looking for unfinished furniture specifically wants furniture that is unfinished, presumably so he can choose the best wood and/or so he can finish it himself in the style of his choice. The smart customer doesn’t allow his emotions or his instincts to guide him in choosing a product. (Unless, of course, the customer really knows his product and can therefore rely on his guts more easily.) The smart customer does his homework before going shopping. That is how he can find what he is looking for and be satisfied with his purchase.
