If like me you read lots of books then you will know they take up a large amount of space, the best way to store books is on a book case. Lots of people have books which they wish to keep, it is not ideal storing your books in the attic or garage as they will be subject to damp. The best way to store your books is on a wooden bookcase in your living room or dining room. A wooden bookcase will not only allow you to keep your books in an ideal condition but will also double as a nice display. Wooden bookcases come in a variety of sizes, styles and woods, you can also get metal bookcases but these are not as popular as the wooden versions as they do not look as nice and are more at home in the office.

When choosing a bookcase you want it to blend in with the rest of your furniture in the room where you are going to place it. One of the easiest ways to do this is to buy an unfinished furniture bookcase as you can then decide what color or finish you want to give it yourself. Unfinished furniture bookcases come in a variety of different woods one of the most popular and cheapest option is the pine bookcase. However if its quality you are looking for then nothing is better than a nice oak bookcase. There are lots of different finishes you can give your wooden bookcase you could varnish it, varnish comes in a variety of different colors from clear to dark. Before you apply the varnish it is best to sand the bookcase smooth an then apply lots of thin coats. Another good finish is to stain the wood with wax this also comes in a variety of different tones and colorings. Wax is easy to apply to your wooden bookcase. You just have to make sure that the wood is smooth then use a duster to apply wiping off any excess, make sure you completely rub in the wax for the best finish.

The final method is the painted bookcase this is probably the easiest way of blending a wooden bookcase in with all your other furniture as the variations is as wide as the different colors of paint available. You can always update an old wooden bookcase by just applying a couple of coats of paint and hey presto you have a new wood bookcase.  This is always an easy way to update children’s furniture, painting kids bookcase from say a small kids pattern to maybe a young child’s color would not take too much trouble.

If you have a large amount of books you may need more than one bookcase, the best type of wooden bookcase to buy is one where you can adjust the shelves to different levels this allows you to put both large and small books on the same bookcase. The best way to store books is to stand them on there end with the spine facing outwards, if the shelves are not adjustable you may not be able to do this with larger sized books. There are lots of different bookcases available and you just have to look around for the one which is suitable for your home.
